Morley Gate Closed, Mariposa Gate Reduces Hours of Operation

The Border Reports – April 1, 2020

NOGALES, SONORA, MX.- Francisco Gim Nogales, Administrator of Aduana México announced that beginning Sunday, April 5 the International Port of Entry Mariposa will reduce 4 hours in their hours of operation.

He explained that instead of opening from 6:00 to 22:00, it will now be open from 8:00 to 20:00, which means it will open two hours later and close two hours earlier.

He clarified that this action will not affect the hours of operation for commercial crossings, since the regular hours of operation are from 8:00 to 19:00, and it will remain the same.

He added that in the event that a passenger bus tries to cross during non business hours, it will be given the opportunity to be routed through the Port of Entry Dennis DeConcini, which will maintain their hours of operation as 24/7.  Likewise beginning this week the pedestrian port of Entry Paris’ Arch, better known as “Morley Gate” is closed considering it was processing a small amount of pedestrians, sometimes up to 12 for the full day since commercial establishments in both Mexico and United States are currently closed.

The administrator stressed that this strategy was applied due to the decrease of border crossing, as well as to make better use of the staff and to provide more security in the community as far as sanitary filters when entering Mexico.  In the normal season Mariposa gate processes around 1,200 trucks of exports (towards United States) but currently there are only between 300 and 600 and it is expected to decrease even more in the upcoming days.

Importations (from United States into Mexico) usually process between 600 and 700; this past Tuesday, only 47 were processed.
