Tucson Bighorn Fire – Update

TUCSON, ARIZONA, USA – A total of 10,367 Acres have been consumed by the flames of the Bighorn fire in North Tucson, where hundreds of local residents have been evacuated from their residences.

In an update released by the Oro Valley Police Department, it is reported that until this Saturday morning the fire has been contained by 10%.

The emergency is being attended to by 550 workers.

At 8:00 p.m. on Friday, orders were issued to evacuate some areas of the Foothills Catalina area, near Catalina State Park. The general boundaries of the area are Southerland Trail in the West and Rollins Road in the North.

The order is still active on Saturday.

Shelters were installed at a school on Concordia Oeste Street, in Oro Valley, and a pet shelter was installed at Rillito Racecourse, at 4502 North of 1st Ave.

The areas of The Enclave in Pima Canyon, in Villas, Villa Milano, and Sin Vacas, in the area of ​​Rancho Sin Vacas, as well as Catalina Rige Estates and the Canyons, remain on alert.

As well as residents east of Alvernon, north of the Skyline, west of Sabino, north of Magee, east of Oracle, and south of Catalina State Park.

The fire of the Bighorn fire started from June 5 by a lightning strike.

During Friday night, firefighters took advantage of the colder temperatures to carry out a burning operation near East Golder Ranch to prevent fire from reaching the properties.

For this Saturday, crews will continue to work to secure a line of fire between Catalina State Park and Golder Ranch, making as much progress as possible in the morning hours.

The fire is at the top of Ventana Canyon and Romero Canyon, where it is expected to continue to grow uphill towards Window Rock.
