Supreme Court Rules to Keep DACA

PHOENIX, ARIZONA, US – The determination of the U.S. Supreme Court to not eliminate the DACA program (Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals), protects the immigration status of approximately 26,000 people in Arizona that were in risk of deportation.

This Thursday the United States Supreme Court blocked the initiative to eliminate the DACA program, allowing around 650,000 young people in the United States to keep their temporary authorizations to work or study.

According to the American Immigration Council (AIC), approximately 13% of Arizona residents were born in another country and 16% were born in the United States to at least one immigrant parent.

And at least 275,000 US citizens live with an undocumented family member.

In a statement, Glenn Hamer, president of the Arizona Chamber of Commerce and Industry, called the determination a relief to thousands of friends, neighbors, co-workers who help build America’s wealth.

“The average dreamer is 26 years old, they speak English, they went to school, they got jobs, they started families of their own,” he said.
