Stay Home Enforced During Easter Sunday

Local authorities are stopping citizens from going to the city’s recreational sites as part of the measures to prevent the spread of the Covid-19.
Mascareñas is a common recreational spot for Nogales residents. It is located ten miles East of the city, with lots of vegetation, a stream and so close by, it’s common for Nogales residents to visit on Easter Sunday.
At 4 dollars per vehicle, families can enter a fenced property and spend a safe day having a picnic and doing the traditional easter egg hunt, but not this year.
“El Bellotoso” is a great extension of land in the South side of Nogales where there are still some trees of bellota, a kind of small walnut and symbol of the city of Nogales, Sonora.
Families bring food, and spend the day playing sports or just lounging in the shade of a tree.
This sector of the city is also closed and the presence of people was prohibited to prevent the spread of Covid-19. Local authorities were also onsite at this location to enforce the prohibition.
Until this Sunday Nogales, Sonora had only one reported Covid-19 case.
