El Departamento de Seguridad Nacional confirmó que Diego Barrón Esquivel, ciudadano de origen mexicano sin estatus legal, fue sentenciado a 20 años de prisión federal por un ataque contra un agente de ICE en Kansas.
Los hechos ocurrieron en febrero de 2025, en Wichita, durante un operativo dirigido. Según documentos judiciales, el individuo se resistió al arresto y un agente resultó gravemente afectado durante el incidente.
Las autoridades informaron que el agente logró recuperarse y que el sospechoso fue detenido posteriormente con apoyo de policías locales.
Barrón Esquivel se declaró culpable el 3 de diciembre de 2025 por el delito federal de agresión forzada contra un funcionario, lo que permitió aplicar la pena máxima contemplada por la ley.
Funcionarios federales señalaron que este caso refleja el incremento de riesgos que enfrentan los agentes durante operativos y reiteraron que cualquier agresión contra personal de seguridad será procesada con todo el peso de la ley.

KANSAS.- A case that sends a clear message about aggressions against authorities.
The Department of Homeland Security confirmed that Diego Barrón Esquivel, a Mexican citizen with no legal status, was sentenced to 20 years in federal prison for an attack on an ICE agent in Kansas.
The events occurred in February 2025, in Wichita, during a targeted operation.
According to court documents, the individual resisted arrest and an officer was seriously affected during the incident.
Authorities reported that the officer managed to recover and that the suspect was subsequently arrested with the support of local police.
Barron-Esquivel pleaded guilty on December 3, 2025 to the federal crime of forced disappearance against an official, which allowed the maximum penalty contemplated by law to be applied.
Federal officials pointed out that this case reflects the increased risks faced by agents during operations and reiterated that any aggression against security personnel will be prosecuted with the full weight of the law.
