Rocky Point Policemen Sentenced

PUERTO PENASCO, SONORA, MX – For the crime of abuse of power, two Municipal Police officers were sentenced to two years in prison.

The Judge dictated the penalties for Guillermo N and Juan N. They also must pay a fine of 8,688 pesos, each, and they will be discharged from the police force for two years to work in a public office or commission.

They were found guilty of demanding money from cargo transportation drivers, who were circulating through the city with supplies. The police officers were taking advantage while stationed at Covid-19 contingency checkpoints.

Through audios that circulated and went viral on social networks on April 4, the facts were made known, and based on this evidence, the Sonora Prosecutor’s Office requested collaboration from the Puerto Peñasco City Council.

With personnel from the different areas of the Sonora State Attorney General’s Office (FGJE), the investigations began.

Solid evidence was obtained with which it was possible to establish the crime of abuse of authority by the sentenced agents of the Municipal Police, Guillermo N, and Juan N.
