Road Blockade Impacts Border Crossing Flow
NOGALES, SONORA, MX – The road blockade at the south of Sonora has caused a decrease in the number of tractor trucks heading towards the United States with produce export products.
Juan Gim, director of the Ports of Entry in Nogales Sonora, reported that the downward trend is happening for the last two weeks. The director stressed that this time of year is considered high season for exports, and under normal conditions, there should be an average of 400 trucks crossing the border in the morning, compared to the current 200.
“Right now, there are barely 50, 60 trailers waiting in line,” he explained.
He said that usually on a Monday, there are about 1,000 trailers crossing the border, but due to the blockade in the southern part of the state, many people decide not to use the Nogales port of entry
The director of the ports added that the port Garita Mariposa maintains the hours of 8:00 am to 8:00 pm. The port Puerta de Mexico opens 24 hours and the port Morley pedestrian crossing is still closed.
