Recipe of the Day – Butter White Rice
Butter white rice is creamy, filling, tasty and a great side dish for pretty much any meal. Rice is a very versatile ingredient that you can cook many different ways and add to many dishes. This recipe is an ode to savoring the beauty of the pure flavor of rice itself.
You can convert rice into so many things, drinks, desserts, main dishes, side dishes, hot compresses, and of course art! Specifically speaking of food, you can use rice to make horchata, arroz con leche (rice pudding), red rice, garlic rice, cilantro rice, sushi… there are endless possibilities. There is actually a WHOLE website dedicated to rice!
You can find white rice pretty much in any store, it is inexpensive and it lasts for months and months in your pantry. I store mine in plastic containers to keep moisture out. Speaking of… in many Mexican restaurants it is common to see a few grains of rice inside the salt shaker since it is said that it’s an excellent way to keep moisture out. It is also rumored that when you drop your cell in water you can put it in a ziplock bag full of rice for a couple of days to absorb the moisture… I’m not too sure about that one though… 😃
Today we’ll be making butter white rice which is one of my kids favorites. It is healthy, filling and you can make it in about 25 minutes.

Butter White Rice
- 1/2 cup butter
- 1 cup white rice
- 3 cups water
Take a sauce pan and put over medium heat. Put in the butter until it melts.
When the rice melts put in the cup of rice and move constantly as if you are sauteing. You'll need to cook for about 5 minutes.
TIP: Make sure you continue stirring so the rice in the bottom and the sides doesn't burn and turn brown.
When you cook the rice for about the 5 minutes add the 3 cups of water and turn the heat to high.
TIP: The secret to rice is 3 to 1 ratio. That is if you put 1 cup of rice, put 3 cups of water.
When the water starts boiling, turn down the heat to very low and put a lid on the sauce pan. You do not need to stir any more.. AT ALL. Leave cooking for 15 to 20 minutes.
TIP: If you stir the rice it might get sticky
After 20 minutes you'll have perfectly cooked butter white rice. You did it again beautiful!
Enjoy!
