TUCSON, ARIZONA, USA – Protests and demonstrations for the murder of George Floyd in Minneapolis, have happened every day in Arizona, although not in the violent way that other cities in the country have experienced.

Arizona Governor, Doug Ducey, thanked police chiefs in Pima and Maricopa counties, as well as police departments in Tucson and Phoenix, for their performance on Monday night in providing security for the protests.

In Nogales, on Tuesday, a group of people held a peaceful demonstration in the Mariposa shopping plaza, against racism and demanding justice for the case of Floyd, the African American killed during a police arrest.

In Tucson, Mayor Regina Romero said that at this time they have not requested the presence of the National Guard or any other military presence.

“We need a systematic reform and a significant change in policies, not a militarization,” she said in a statement.

The major recalled that during the past week they saw peaceful demonstrations of people who took to the streets and raised their voices, but also small groups whose sole purpose seemed like it was to cause destruction.

The mayor said that she understands the anger and frustration that many feel, but the violence in all its forms, including damaging small businesses and Police, will not be tolerated.
