PHOENIX.- A man was arrested by local authorities after killing a police officer and seriously injuring another agent while trying to escape on a stolen car.
He was identified as Jonathan Atland, 25, Phoenix authorities reported.
The deceased agent is Christopher Farrar, while the injured is Gilberto Rico Aranda.
Pursuit
The incident occurred around midnight Thursday when authorities were informed that a motorist collided with a car dealership near Val Vista and Highway 202.
After entering the building, the 25-year-old stole a vehicle inside the dealership building.
The authorities indicated that he later crashed the vehicle into a gate, hitting agent Farrar, who lost his life, and then crashing the car where Rico Aranda was.
Finally, the individual was arrested and transferred to a hospital, while he is prosecuted for murder, aggravated assault, and car theft.
Authorities say the initial police chase in Pinal County took place after Atland allegedly fled a traffic stop for a speeding violation.
