Ongoing Investigation of Fatal Motorcycle Accident in Tucson
TUCSON, ARIZONA, USA – The Tucson Police Department (TPD) is investigating a fatal collision that occurred last Friday evening on Tucson’s Southeast Side.
According to the TPD, On May 29, 2020 at approximately 7:30 p.m., officers from Operations Division East and members of the Tucson Fire Department were dispatched to a serious injury collision involving a motorcycle and a passenger vehicle.
Two people were riding on the motorcycle when the collision occurred. Both were treated by Tucson Fire personnel and then transported to Banner University Medical Center with serious injuries. Vehicle passengers were not injured.
On June 2, 2020, the operator of the motorcycle, 62-year-old Jeffrey McAllister, sadly passed away from his injuries while receiving treatment at the hospital. Next of kin have been notified. Injuries to the passenger on the motorcycle (Mr. McAllister’s wife) were non-life threatening.
Based on witness statements and roadway evidence, officers were able to determine the driver of a 2016 Toyota Yaris was traveling eastbound on Old Vail Road and attempted to make a left-hand turn (northbound) on to Houghton Road.
At the same time, Mr. McAllister and his wife were traveling westbound on Mary Ann Cleveland Way (which turns into Old Vail Road west of the Houghton Road intersection) on a 2017 Harley Davidson and collided with the Toyota in the intersection. It appears the driver of the Toyota made the left turn on a yellow arrow just before the collision occurred.
There is no indication that impairment was involved with either driver. As of this date, no arrests or citations have been issued. Traffic Detectives are still investigating the collision and more information will be released when it becomes available.
