Nogales City Mayor Seeks To Ignite Economic Reactivation in the Community

NOGALES, SONORA, MX – The Nogales City Mayor conducted a virtual meeting to create an alliance between the different business industries to defeat the Covid-19 pandemic and ignite economic reactivation in the community.

The mayor, Jesus Pujol, said that the main objective is to develop a comprehensive plan to overcome the COVID-19 pandemic.

Before representatives of the industrial and business sectors, as well as State Health, Civil Protection, Religious and Municipal officials working on actions against COVID-19, Pujol launched the initiative that will gradually add more members from different segments of the Nogales society.

“What we seek here is that we all agree on the work plan that is going to be carried out here in Nogales. The idea is that we work together with municipal authorities in coordination with the three levels of Government, the Mexican Army, and the National Guard, as well as private initiative and some representative members of the community’’, he explained.

During the meeting, Pujol Irastorza explained the current health situation that exists on this border. Nogales is on “red alert’’ which is the highest alert level for Covid-19. Until June 16 a total of 64 people had died and hospitals are at 75% occupancy.

“We have hospitals with insufficient staff, funeral homes that are practically at full capacity, many people who can no longer bear to stay at home, economic damage to businesses, to families…” he said.

“What we seek is to collect proposals from all sectors, and also analyze what has been done, the good and the bad; And obviously, keep doing what is good, and add new strategies that will benefit us…” he explained.

The proposals will be analyzed and a plan published at a later date.
