“No Riding Day” Initiated in Caborca

CABORCA, SONORA, MX – Local authorities in Caborca, Mexico, will enforce new restrictions this Friday for vehicles that do not have official license plates with the intent of minimizing traffic during the Covid-19 pandemic.

In Mexico there are membership programs that allow vehicles to circulate the streets without official license plates. Membership programs such as CONDEFA, ONAPPAFFA and LIDER.

The strategy named “No Riding Day” will be implemented to reduce traffic and quantity of people in the city during the Covid-19 pandemic.

The local government announced that the program will be applied to cars affiliated with various organizations, commonly known in Sonora as “PAFFAS”, which sell unofficial license plates through a membership service.

"Any vehicle that is caught circulating without license plates will be sent to the Municipal Impound and will not be returned until the situation has been resolved. Though fines will not be applied for not having official license plates, fines will be incurred for circulating during the assigned No Riding Day. The objective is to reduce mobility in the face of the coronavirus pandemic“, they announced.

Starting Friday authorities will detain all cars circulating without license plates.

And Saturday authorities will detain every car equipped with “PAFFAS” license plates.

The local government will announce on Friday how they will continue the strategy. There are approximately six “PAFFAS” organizations that sell unofficial license plates, but, they can operate thanks to legal protection documents achieved through state judges.

“The measures do not violate the rights of the people since it is only about enforcing the current traffic regulations and mainly to decrease traffic flow for the health of all” announced the local government.
