More Maquiladora Industries Close Each Day

NOGALES, SONORA.-  Each day there are more industries of manufacturing  of products for export in the Mexican border that join the temporary closings as a preventive measure of infection for Covid-19.

On Thursday, the facility Collins Aerospace, located on Alejandria Street in El Greco, closed until April 30.

Ana Maria Gallego Lechuga, Human Resources representative of the company Sonitronies, announced the temporary closure to the employees.

Another industry, Human Scale, was notified by staff from Labor Inspection of the Sonora State Government that they should close effective immediately since the products they manufacture are not considered essential.

The workers manifested a few minutes before the announcement, requesting the facility to close.

On Wednesday, it was informed that Amphenol Optimize, located at Nogales Industrial Park, would close on April 4, but only the areas that were considered non-essential.

In a bulletin they stated they would pay 100% of the daily salary, excluding  bonuses for attendance, punctuality and second shift, and that the payment would be provided weekly through direct deposit in the payroll bank card.

Also on Wednesday, the closure of the factory Atronix was enforced in a procedure by authorities of the Sonora State Government along with the Ministry of Labor in Mexico.

Other companies that have publicly announced their temporary closure are Chamberlain, MTD, M3 and Carlisle.

To this day, over 30 manufacturing facilities have closed partially or completely, out of 116 total in the community.

In social networks, employees of the maquiladora industry have shown their inconformity for some facilities not shutting down when, according to them, they manufacture non-essential products and should comply with the decrees in Mexico released by Sonora State and Federal Governments in Mexico.

More than 22,000 workers are currently not working due to the temporary closure of maquiladora industries as a preventive measure to avoid the spread of Coronavirus.
