Mayors in Arizona Request the Governor to take Immediate Actions Against Covid-19
TUCSON, ARIZONA, USA – Mayors of Tucson, Phoenix, Flagstaff, Tolleson, and Tempe signed a petition for Arizona Governor, Doug Ducey, to take immediate actions in the face of the heightened spread of Covid-19.
In a letter, they state their concerns with the response to the Covid-19 pandemic. Although they do recognize and appreciate the difficult but necessary decisions that have been made.
The mayors asked to declare the use of facemasks mandatory throughout the state. Some cities have mandated the use of facemasks, but some jurisdictions do not require them, which undermines the efforts of the first.
They also call for increasing the ability to test, trace, and isolate positive cases.
“Arizonans should not have to wait in 8-hour lines in triple-digit heat to get tested. For those individuals that do get tested, results are taking up to 9 days causing further uncertainty and preventable spread,” they say.
The third proposal is to encourage Arizonans to stay at home as much possible.
They state their support for additional state-level closings of establishments to reduce the spread of coronavirus. Establishments such as barbershops, hair and nail salons, indoor dining, and other venues.
They also request to re-establish a consistent line of communication with the Mayors and clear statewide direction.
