Mariposa Road Construction Begins mid-April
NOGALES, ARIZONA, US.- Preliminary construction on Mariposa Road (State Route 189) in Nogales is scheduled to begin in mid-April.
This $134 million project, being administered by the Arizona Department of Transportation, is designed to improve traffic efficiency and safety on Mariposa Road from the International Port of Entry to Grand Avenue.
The project will include the widening Mariposa Road, within the project limits, to accommodate new raised medians, accord to a press bulletin from de Nogales Santa Cruz Chamber of Commerce.
The project will also add a third lane on Mariposa Road, in the westbound direction from Grand Avenue to La Quinta Road and in the eastbound direction from Loma Mariposa Road to Congress Drive.
There will be construction of new flyover ramps connecting Mariposa Road with Interstate 19, and construction of a new roundabout at the intersection of Mariposa Road with Target Range Road.
New and upgraded traffic signals will be included as well as drainage and lighting improvements.
During construction, a minimum of one lane of traffic will be maintained in each direction on Mariposa Road.
Some sections of the project area will maintain two traffic lanes in each direction.
Vehicle access will be maintained to area homes and businesses throughout the 18-month schedule.
Any additional travel restrictions needed will be between 8 p.m. and 6 a.m., or on weekends, and affected properties will be notified in advance.
