Mandatory Sanitary Tunnels For Visitors From USA into Mexico

NOGALES, SONORA, MX – All travelers entering Mexico from the US through Mariposa Port of Entry are required to walk through a sanitization tunnel as a preventive measure of Covid-19.

Nogales Mayor, Jesús Antonio Pujol Irastorza, announced that the tunnels will be active until the end of the Covid-19 health emergency.

“Today we initiate with sanitization tunnels for people that cross the border into Mexico. If someone has symptoms of the virus and is a U.S. citizen, they can return to the United States. If they are not a U.S. citizen, they will be sent directly to one of the clinics in Nogales, Sonora,” he said.

The Nogales mayor specified that they have four of these sanitizing tunnels which will be placed in the border ports of entry into Mexico, as well as in the General Hospital and any other areas where needed.

We want this contingency to finish as soon as possible, we are planning to return to normal activity on May 31,” he added.

The sanitization arch or tunnel was installed entering Mexico from Mariposa Port, on Luis Donaldo Colosio street, and is being operated by Police officers that maintain the sanitary checkpoint.

The solution that they use is quaternary biodegradable water and disinfectant that will be sprayed automatically at the person inside. It will also add a layer of protection from Covid-19 contamination for 15 to 24 hours.
