Man Arrested During Armed Confrontation

CABORCA, SONORA, MX – On Wednesday, members of the National Guard arrest a man linked to a criminal organization suspected for extortions in the Caborca ​​region.

The detainee was identified as 32-year-old Pedro N aka El Gordo. He had several splinter injuries from the windshield of the car in which he was traveling.

His arrest was after an armed confrontation repelled by the National Guard on a state highway that leads from La Y Griega to Puerto Peñasco, near the Ejido San Felipe.

It was at 6:30 pm when the authorities were dispatched on-site in support of a 911 emergency call, warning them that a trailer with a shipment of olives was intentionally set on fire.

When they arrived, they were attacked by people aboard three cars: a golden Honda Oddysey, with license plates from the Alianza Unida; a Chevrolet, Blazer equipped with strobes lights; and a green Toyota Corolla.

Authorities strategically repelled the attack led by the driver of the Honda, while the other cars fled.

The guards secured the van and arrested Pedro M. They also seized an AR-15 rifle with a stocked magazine and found several doses of cocaine.
