Magdalena De Kino, War Zone for Organized Crime
MAGDALENA DE KINO, SONORA, MX – It was eight o’clock at night, and the anguish remained with Magdalena residents.
Dozens of assassins traveling in vehicles accessorized to assemble automatic machine guns spread terror in the city for the second consecutive day without any authority being able to stop them.
It was four in the afternoon when residents heard the first shots; there were reports in the neighboring towns of San Ignacio and El Tacícuri, but also in the area next to the stadium and the Caseta de Cobro, on the federal highway that leads from Nogales to Hermosillo.
Residents were running through the streets trying to protect themselves from the lead rain that the armed confrontations between antagonistic drug trafficking groups left in their wake.
One hour later, at five in the afternoon, it was confirmed that one of the fatalities was Luis Alfonso Robles Contreras, former mayor of Magdalena from 2003-2006 and between 2015 and 2018.
He had been killed when he was driving in a van, authorities presumed that he was a victim of the crossfire. It was also confirmed that one of the criminals was killed.
Authorities from the three levels of government patrolled the area for the second consecutive day, so far not releasing details. Organized crime in Magdalena de Kino was present, once again, for the fourth time in less than a year.
In Hermosillo, state authorities confirmed that they will issue a press release about the events.
In the statement of the shooting on Wednesday details were not provided, nor the confirmation of any casualties. The statement focused primarily on the finding of seven cars and the securement of weapons.
