Her daughter died in her arms by gunshot in a Mothers Day event
SAN ANTONIO.- On Mother’s Day, a young mother from Texas had the misfortune to see her six-year-old daughter dying in her arms, after the child was injured with a gunshot.
The girl was mortally wounded at a Mother’s Day event celebrated last Sunday in San Antonio, Texas.
“She took her last breath into my arms,” Casandra Mendoza told CNN.
Mendoza held her daughter, Sarayah Pérez, 6, while the little girl died in her arms in a parking lot on Sunday night.
Mendoza says she took her daughter to a car club meeting to have a good time. The event was held near Southwest 24th Street and West Commerce.
Police say an argument broke out and suddenly they heard several shots, one of which hit little Sarayah who was in the back seat of her car.
“They took her from me. Why?” Mendoza said. “She wasn’t doing anything wrong. She was having fun.”
Subsequently, San Antonio police arrested 23-year-old Andrew Ray Elizondo, someone Mendoza knew.
“I will never forgive Andrew, never. He has own children,” she said. “How could you do this to my baby?”
Andrew Elizondo is in the Bexar County Jail and faces a capital murder charge.
