Heat Wave Approaches, Immigrants Warned
TUCSON, ARIZONA, US – An Orange Level Alert was raised for some areas of the Sonoran desert due to a heatwave that will strike over the weekend, mainly in the western corridor between towns such as Sonoita and San Luis.
An orange alert is the third of five levels and indicates a moderate risk for those who are sensitive to heat, especially when lacking adequate hydration or cooling devices.
Temperature conditions in the region could be close to 100 Fahrenheit degrees starting on Saturday and through most of next week.
With high temperatures approaching, the Border Patrol alerted immigrants to avoid illegal border crossings.
Historically, according to the Border Patrol, during this period, the Tucson sector recorded a substantial increase in emergency calls and activations of rescue towers from people in difficulties.
In the desert region of Arizona with Sonora, there are about 34 rescue towers strategically located in remote areas of the western corridor, placed as an aid option for immigrants in danger.
