Gas Station Arsonist Apprehended
CABORCA, SONORA, MX – Authorities will prosecute the suspect Refugio Joel for intentionally setting a gas station on fire against in Caborca during the early hours of June 26.
According to information by the Attorney General of the State of Sonora (FGJE), the suspect’s participation was demonstrated with solid evidence.
The incident occurred around 12:20 am on June 26 at Obregon Street and L Avenue, in the neighborhood Centro.
State investigators established that the suspect threatened the dispatcher of the establishment with a knife and took him hostage inside the office area.
Inside the office, the worker observed through the security camera monitor that the suspect set fire to the hoses and pistols of the gas pumps. He immediately triggered an alarm and closed off the gasoline supply.
Almost immediately, local police rushed to the scene to catch the arsonist still committing the crime. The man was identified as Refugio Joel N.
Firefighters also arrived at the scene and immediately contained the flames.
