First Death Registered in Sonora for Covid-19
HERMOSILLO, SONORA, MX.- The first death in Sonora was confirmed this Saturday at the border city of Nogales, due to health complications derived from Covid-19.
The victim was a 29-year-old woman who lived in the city of Magdalena de Kino, located at 80 kilometers south from the Sonora-Arizona border.
Enrique Clausen Iberri, state secretary of Health in Sonora, reported on Saturday via videoconference that the deceased woman suffered from diabetes mellitus.
“This woman had recently been diagnosed with diabetes mellitus, she had no recent travel history, she started with cough, fever and general discomfort on March 22 and received symptomatic medical treatment but her body did not respond positively”

On March 28, she was hospitalized in an IMSS medical unit in the city of Nogales.
She had respiratory failure and pneumonia which raised a suspicion for Covid-19; specific treatment was provided and a test sample was taken to confirmed, he adds.
“The young woman passed away on March 30. This case was not included in the previously confirmed cases, her test sample was listed as a suspected case and until today the IMSS notified us that it was a confirmed case of Covid-19, ” he finalized.
A total of 29 cases of Covid-19 have been confirmed in Sonora and one death.
