Fentanyl Seizures Have Doubled in Southern Arizona
NOGALES, ARIZONA, USA – Fentanyl seizures have doubled this fiscal year compared to the previous year, and many of the latest seizures are from residents and citizens of the United States.
One of the most recent cases occurred at the Interstate 19 checkpoint in Amado, Arizona, where an 18-year-old woman resident of Nevada was detained.
She was traveling in a passenger shuttle and on inspection, Border Patrol officers found a cylindrical lump with 8.1 ounces of fentanyl. The woman was hiding the drug cargo inside her body. The Department of Homeland Security Investigations took over the case.
Another unrelated case occurred in Nogales where officers seized 0.4 pounds of heroin carried by a U.S. woman hidden on her chest area.
