Facemasks Required in Nogales, Sonora
NOGALES, SONORA, MX – The City of Nogales, Sonora, joins the cities of Nogales, Tucson, Bisbee as well as Pima County in Arizona in mandating the use of face masks in public places.
The mayor of Nogales, Jesus Pujol Irastorza conducted an extraordinary session of the city council. They determined several actions that need to take place to prevent, mitigate, direct, and attend the pandemic.
Strategies are approved by members of the City Council and proposed through an alliance with representatives of the business community, social and civil organizations. The objective is to mitigate the risks of the spread of Covid-19 in the city.
The plan requires the use of face masks when in public places. This includes public transportation such as well as taxis, supermarkets, essential and non-essential businesses. The plan also mandates sanitizing procedures for the same cases.
The city government is also working on setting up a Covid-19 center for non-critical patients to relieve the hospitals’ current workload. The city government is actively searching for resources.
City government also plans to provide training to street vendors and essential and non-essential business to standardize sanitization protocols. Lastly, they will be setting up a call center to provide medical and psychological guidance to the community.
