Essential Travel Restriction Into the USA Extended

NOGALES, ARIZONA, US – US authorities announced a 30 day extension of the temporary restriction in non-essential border crossing. This 30 day extension applies to all non-essential northbound travel from Mexico into the US.

On Monday morning the Department of Customs and Border Protection (@CBP) confirmed the 30 day extension, which will extend the date until May 20.

The restrictions strategy began on March 20 when US authorities announced that crossings into the United States would be restricted to only essential travels and trade.

Today, April 20, the first term expired and it has been officially extended for 30 additional days.

Essential Travel

Under the category of essential travel, all US citizens and residents are included. Employees, emergency personnel and workers in the transportation industry as well as those who travel for medical and educational purposes.

Government officials and diplomats, as well as members of the United States Armed Forces and their families.

Southbound border crossing from USA into Mexico continue with no restrictions. When entering Mexico, southbound travelers will be greeted and directed to a sanitary health filter at some borders such as Nogales. Health workers conduct a quick survey including where the travelers are visiting from and will take their body temperature.
