Eleven Drug Seizures At The Arizona-Sonora Border
Tucson, Arizona, USA – A total of eleven drug seizures at border crossing ports between Arizona and Sonora were reported by US Customs.
Officers seized fentanyl, heroin, and methamphetamine totaling nearly 300 pounds and approximately $21,000 in undeclared currency. Drugs smuggled into the United States have an estimated value of $401,000.
Five traffickers were arrested in Nogales. Four were attempting to smuggle heroin and one was attempting to smuggle fentanyl.
Concealment methods ranged from attaching packages to their bodies to transporting them inside their body.
Also, there was a case where they discovered 92 pounds of methamphetamine hidden in the sidewalls of a van driven by a 47-year-old Tucson man.
This week in Nogales, a shipment of 3 pounds of heroin and methamphetamines was seized. Agents found the illegal shipment in the pelvic area of a US citizen.
Also they secured three pounds of heroin and 92 pounds of methamphetamine on the lateral panels of a car.
San Luis
The port of San Luis had five seizures; one of them was a 23-year-old Mexican national woman traveling with her 5-year-old son. They were referred for further inspection of their vehicle.
During the search, a narcotics detection dog alerted agents, finding 55 pounds of methamphetamine in the spare tire. The woman was handed over to National Security Investigations (HSI) for processing and the minor was handed over to a grandfather.
The other seizures at the Port of San Luis included a case of a 15-year-old and a 19-year-old woman who were attempting to smuggle fentanyl pills tied to their torso area and currency of nearly 21,000.
Lukeville
At the Lukeville port, officers found a 41-year-old Phoenix woman trying to smuggle more than 85 pounds of methamphetamine hidden throughout her vehicle.
Lukeville had a busy weekend with more than 141 pounds of methamphetamine seized.
