Early Morning Crossfire in Nogales
NOGALES, SONORA, MX – An armed confrontation between National Guard members and armed individuals registered early Wednesday morning in the South of Nogales, leaving one person dead.
According to reports by the National Guard, the incident occurred when the National Guard was patrolling the area. South of Nogales, on Periferico Oriente, they identified armed individuals.
The armed individuals began shooting at the National Guard members from two cars. The military reacted quickly and neutralized one of the cars, a white Dodge Durango. The second car, a Chevrolet, Silverado fled.
Upon closer inspection of the neutralized car, they found the body of one of the assailants. They also found an R15 and Ak-47 rifles.
The National Guard reports no injuries, only material damages to one of their cars.
The General Attorney’s officers were dispatched to the scene, to start the investigation.
Later that day, the National Guard was put on high alert based on the intelligence of a possible confrontation between armed groups in the area of El Bellotoso, south of Nogales, which finally did not occur.
