Crossfire in Caborca Results in Five Captured and One Person Dead

CABORCA, SONORA, MX – Five men captured, one alleged criminal dead and the seizure of armament, tactical equipment, and vehicles, was the result of crossfire in Caborca between a criminal group and the Mexican Army.

According to a statement by the State Attorney’s Office, the incident was on June 30 in Ejido El Chilayas of Caborca.

The report details that military members subdued the armed group in an immediate tactical reaction.

Five people are under arrest:

  • 39-year-old Francisco N
  • 38-year-old Jesus N
  • 27-year-old Humberto N
  • 22-year-old Candelario N
  • 42-year-old Gaspar N

There was a sixth person but he was killed during the confrontation with the authorities. According to the official report, the person had a 9 mm caliber firearm and a 7.62×39 caliber rifle.

The Mexican Army requested backup support by state authorities. They were dispatch to the scene carrying out air and ground operations, finally securing the scene.

Twelve firearms were seized in total, ten of those were rifle types, mainly those known as AK-47s.

Authorities also secured two short firearms, one a 9 mm caliber and one a .40 caliber. They also secured more than a thousand cartridges of various calibers, including 50-caliber.

Among the items seized there was a Chevrolet, Tahoe and a white stolen Ford Raptor.

Follow Up Operations

During the first minutes of July 1, and following up on the incident, elements of the State Safety State Police located firearms inside in an abandoned vehicle on Quinta del Sur Street and Q Avenue.

At that time, the authorities seized a white Kia, Sorento, 2020 where they found rifle-type firearms, each with its respective magazine, in addition to four more magazines and 110 .223 caliber cartridges.

This crossfire in Caborca is the latest one in a series of terror that have occurred in the city over the past month.
