Criminal Groups in Northern Sonora Dismantled
HERMOSILLO, SONORA, MX – State authorities and the Mexican Army dismantled a criminal organization in the Northern region of Sonora, which days ago caused shootings and armed confrontations.
As part of the operations, they arrested eleven suspects, in addition to the seizure of high-caliber firearms, tactical equipment, and armored cars.
At a press conference Jose Jaime Valenzuela Tiznado, technical secretary of the Federal Security Board, accompanied by the Public Safety State Secretary, David Anaya Cooley, among other officials, announced the results of the operations.
Among the results, he explained that in the Municipality of Imuris, Public Safety State Police (PESP) officers, in coordination with the Mexican Army, arrested four people on May 17, identified as Antonio N, Luis N, Jose N, and Humberto N, 22, 21, 19 and 30 years old, respectively.
The men were caught in the small town of Los Janos, on Imuris, seizing two AK-47 and R-15 rifles, more than 380 cartridges of different calibers, in addition, 15 magazines and a pick-up Ford F-250.
In Caborca, the State Police officers detained four people on May 18 in Ejido El Sahuaro. They were identified as Jorge N, Marco Polo N, Otoniel N, and Marco Fernando N, 37, 26, 18, and 19 years respectively.
The officers seized from them two 50 caliber firearms, also known as Barrett; 2 7.62×39 caliber rifles, more than 800 cartridges, 4 plate vests; plus 2 armored vehicles.
In Magdalena, an armed group was dismantled and intercepted on May 18 in the San Martin neighborhood, where Jesus N, Carlos N, Gerardo N, and German N were arrested on 27, 26, 20, and 23 years old, respectively.
They were caught inside a Toyota sedan, where the officers found 4 firearms, two of them 7.62×39 caliber rifle, another .223 caliber rifle, and a .45 caliber pistol, all with a magazine, totaling 71 ammunition.
In another incident, a car reported stolen was found containing a .223 caliber long rifle inside with its magazine supplied with 26 ammunition and a 357 handgun loaded with 12 cartridges.
As part of the operations between April 22 to May 19, 14 investigations have been initiated related to the recent armed confrontations in Magdalena and Caborca.
In total 25 long weapons, 6 handguns, 4 grenades, 72 magazines, 4,668 cartridges, and 20 vehicles have been seized.
13 men have been arrested, of which 9 are already linked to legal processes.
In addition, 107,639 square feet of marijuana plantations were found and destroyed along with three greenhouses.
