Couple That Assaulted Police and Customs Agent Ordered to Pay Fine
NOGALES, SONORA, MEXICO – The couple detained at the Garita Puerta de Mexico (Dennis DeConcini) was fined with 120 dollars (2,500 pesos) after their detention last Wednesday night.
According to an official report from the Attorney General’s Office in Sonora (FGJE), it is reported that this was the settlement t for the case before the state justice.
“It (the fine) was for acts of aggression committed towards Municipal agents, apparently after an altercation inside the Agency’s facilities that were published through social media networks,” said the report.
The document by the state authority states that at 0:05 hours on May 28, the state prosecutor received the Official Police Report (IPH) for two detainees, one female, a resident of Tucson, Arizona, and a male, resident of Nogales, Sonora.
They were detained after a fight involving a female customs agent. The report states that a local police agent was also physically assaulted by the couple.
According to the official report “the police officer received a punch to the face, and then detained the couple’’, which is evidenced on video.
“The couple was presented before the Public Ministry for crimes against public officials, the investigation folder was started, the arrest was classified as legal and the couple was channeled to the Alternative Media Organ for Dispute Resolution,” the statement said.
Before Alternative Justice, of the FGJE Sonora, two reparation agreements were made:
- Payment of 2,500 pesos was covered for medical expenses, as well as
- A public apology by the accused, who upon complying obtained their freedom.
“Clarifying that regarding the events that occurred inside the customs checkpoint area, where a fight occurred between the civilian and a customs agent, the Sonora Public Prosecutor’s Office did not have any intervention, since the arrest of the two civilians originated for the assault on a Municipal Police officer,” adds the statement.
