Coronavirus Infections in 28% of Cities in Sonora

HERMOSILLO, SONORA, MX – In recent days, at least one case of Covid-19 has been confirmed in three municipalities that previously had no records of the disease, confirmed Gerardo Alvarez Hernandez, general director of Health Promotion and Disease Prevention.

This week, he said, Santa Ana, Cananea, and Cumpas are added to the list of cities that have at least one case for Covid-19. To date, 28% of the municipalities of the state have registered at least one case.

“The number of municipalities with registered cases of infection has increased, and at this moment 28% of the municipalities in the state of Sonora, that is, 20, have at least one registered case of Covid-19, which also speaks of the slow spread of the virus,” he expressed.

He also explained that of the 485 cases registered in Sonora, 342 were ambulatory cases, accounting for 70.5% of the cases.

61 people have fully recovered, 12.6% of the cases. 12 people are hospitalized in stable condition and 25 patients are hospitalized in serious conditions.

The general director of Health Promotion and Disease Prevention explained that it is important that citizens continue with the sanitary measures that have been implemented such as frequent hand washing since hygiene helps to reduce the number of respiratory infections, diarrhea, and other diseases, not just Covid-19 infections.

“I do believe that health contingency measures are going to become the new way of life, at least I hope… I think that in the future if we have the flu or another respiratory illness, we will understand what we have what to do, which is to use our face mask, take our temperature and not go to work,” he added.
