Continental Corporation in Nogales Closing in the Next Three Years

NOGALES, SONORA, MX – Continental corporation in Nogales where nearly 2,000 people work, will be closing in the next three years.

The decision was made in the face of increasing costs, which makes it necessary to concentrate regional production elsewhere to improve competitiveness.

A corporate report indicates that the production of vehicle connectivity and communication technology, as well as components of the navigation system, will be phased out.

They estimate that by mid-2024 they will complete the closure by transferring some activities to other locations.

The plans are part of the next structural stage Transformation 2019-2029 of the German technology company, after a meeting held by the Supervisory Board of Continental.

In addition to the Nogales plant, they will close a facility in Rubí, Spain, by 2021.

In doing so, the technology company is moving forward with the implementation of the structural program that they announced in September of 2019, said the company.

And that this program aims to strengthen the company’s long-term global competitiveness to guarantee its viability in the future.
