Business Owners and Executives Raise Security Concerns to the Secretary of Public Safety of Mexico
HERMOSILLO, SONORA, MX – Business owners and executives from seven cities in Sonora held a virtual meeting on Wednesday with the Secretary of Public Safety of Mexico, Alfonso Durazo Montaño.
Businessmen from Nogales, Agua Prieta, San Luis Rio Colorado, Navojoa, Obregon, Hermosillo, and Guaymas, raised the main security concerns.
Hipolito Sedano Ruiz, the Canacintra representative for the North Pacific, says they were informed that Sonora ranks seventh in the list of most violent states in Mexico, above entities such as Sinaloa, Guerrero, and Tamaulipas.
Sonora also holds fifth place in sexual attack incidents and third place in violence against spouses.
In a presentation by the Secretary regarding the state violence indicators, the deficit of municipal and state police officers was also addressed.
Durazo Montaño was informed of the concern in the city regarding a proposal to disappear the office of the Attorney General of the Republic (FGR) in Nogales.
The meeting lasted two hours, finally agreeing to integrate delegations from Nogales, Obregon, Navojoa, San Luis Rio Colorado, and Agua Prieta to a single group for the dialogue and direct communication to the Secretary of Security and Citizen Protection.
