Armed Confrontation in Magdalena Results in Six Arrests

MAGDALENA, SONORA, MX – On Saturday, Magdalena de Kino endured an armed confrontation between members of the National Guard and a criminal group.

The confrontation results in six arrests and the seize of three cars, fourteen long weapons, eighty magazines, over twenty explosives, and over 5,440 ammunition.

Crossfire started at about 3:30 pm on a dirt road between Magdalena and the town of Santo Niño, where, according to the official report by the National Guard, they were attacked by gunfire.

The National Guard repelled the attack, and by maneuvering vehicles, they established a perimeter fence that resulted in the arrests and seizures.

The detainees are 42-year-old Jose, 29-year-old Jose Guillermo C, 30-year-old Rodrigo C, 25-year-old Erraquio B, 46-year-old Luis H, and 25-year-old Edgar S, all born in Sonora.

The seized cars were an armored Hummer, a Chevrolet Suburban and a Ford pickup F150.

Among the weapons there were 50 caliber and AK-47 rifles, in addition to .308, M16, M4, R-15 and .22.

They also found 80 magazines, 5,440 bullets and more than 20 explosive charges.
