AMLO: Mexico is an Independent, Free, and Sovereign Country

MEXICO CITY – The President of the United States of America, Donald Trump, has acted with respect for the sovereignty of the people of Mexico, said the President of Mexico, Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador on Thursday.

The Mexican mandatary recalled that when Ovidio Guzman, son of “Chapo Guzman” was arrested and released in Sinaloa, his US counterpart offered support through a group from a US security agency in Mexico

“I thanked him and he understood that it is our business. When they wanted to classify those who participate in criminal gangs in Mexico as terrorists and he asked my opinion, I said no,” he continued.

Fortunately, the next day, he continued, President Trump announced that because of our conversation, they would not classify criminal gangs in Mexico as terrorists.

“Imagine if a foreign country considers a gang, even drug traffickers, as a terrorist, what does it mean in terms of foreign policy, that they can intervene without consulting anyone, then we do become a colony, a kind of protectorate and Mexico is an independent, free and sovereign country ”, he pointed out.

President Lopez Obrador remarked that he has a very good relationship with the United States Government.

“We have a very good relationship with the United States Government,” he said.
