Adulterated Clorox From Mexico
NOGALES, SONORA, MX – Approximately 900 bottles of Clorox diluted with water, which makes it ineffective as a sanitizer for Covid-19, have been seized at Garita Mariposa.
Since March and as a result of the pandemic, there has been an increase in imports of this product through this port, reported the Department of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).
“The special agents began to investigate how and where these products arrived in the country,” cites the press release.
Upon testing they noted that the bleach was being diluted significantly with water, making it ineffective.
From March to date, approximately 900 bottles of adulterated chlorine bleach have been seized.
The investigation continues and Nogales agents are coordinating with the United States Attorney’s Office in Tucson to determine who is responsible for handling the product.
According to ICE, the Clorox Company indicates that many of the products manufactured in Mexico are not for domestic consumption in the United States.
“Products authorized for import by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) must contain a label detailing ingredients, instructions, warnings, and uses,” the information added.
