6-Year Prison Sentence for Stolen Vehicle

NOGALES, SONORA, MX – In less than 48 hours, the Attorney General of Justice of the State of Sonora (FGJE) obtained a 6-year prison sentence for a person responsible for the theft of a vehicle.

The judge issued the sentence against Francisco Javier N in an abbreviated procedure, which the then accused accepted after evidence data presented at the hearing by the General Attorneys Office.

The sentenced must purge a penalty of 6 years in prison for the crime of possession of a stolen vehicle. He must also pay 4,344 pesos to the victim for the damages caused. The sanctions were approved on June 9.

Around 2:30 am on June 8, Sandra Luz realized that her red Chevrolet Malibu vehicle was not in the place where she had parked it, outside her home in the Diana Laura Riojas neighborhood.

She immediately called 9-1-1 to report the incident, indicating that she had arrived at her home around 6:00 p.m. on June 7, leaving the vehicle unit properly closed.

Nogales police were alerted and at approximately 03:13 am on June 8, local police officers detected a vehicle with characteristics matching those in the stolen vehicle report.

They stopped the car going southbound on Tecnologico street almost reaching Periferico Luis Donaldo Colosio. The driver of the Chevrolet Malibu was identified as Francisco Javier N. The thief was immediately secured and now sentenced.
