335 Years in Prison for Murderer of 9 people
CAJEME, SONORA, MX – 39-year-old Roberto Carlos, aka “R2”, receives a new sentence of 45 years and 10 months in prison for homicide and attempted murder. He now accumulates 335 years and 5 months in prison for nine murders and two attempted murders in Cajeme City.
The sentence was delivered on Monday, July 13 in a virtual hearing.
The crimes sentenced are homicide with malicious intent and advantage, committed to the detriment of Ana Laura N, 19 years old, and attempted homicide with premeditated malicious intent and advantage, to the detriment of Ismael N, 25 years old.
The judge imposed a sentence of 31 years and 3 months for the murder charge and 14 years and 7 months for the murder attempt, for a total of 45 years and 10 months. The convicted also must pay a fine of 22,605.36 Mexican pesos and an additional 48,497.26 pesos to the victims for moral damages.
Facts
On the night of February 11, 2019, the victims left a house in the San Gabriel neighborhood and boarded a gray Jeep vehicle but Roberto Carlos N and Roberto were waiting for them outside.
Upon seeing them, the attackers began firing from a Nissan Versa. Ana Laura lost her life, while Ismael managed to get out and flee.
The attackers chased him into a local grocery store and continued to fire towards him despite that there were other clients inside the store. Ismael was the only person that sustained multiple injuries, everyone else was unharmed.
Both aggressors were apprehended on February 26, 2019 by officers of the Ministerial Agency for Criminal Investigation (AMIC).
Roberto N accepted his responsibility right away and was sentenced, but Roberto Carlos N did not. A trial was held on March 9 and 10 of this year, but it was suspended due to the COVID 19 pandemic.
The prosecution demonstrated with 23 witnesses the participation of Roberto Carlos N in the attack, including medical experts, criminalists, first responders, AMIC agents, and relatives of the victims.
The aggressor Roberto Carlos N had already received sentences for separate incidents of homicide and attempted murder. One sentence for 150 years in prison, another for 139 years and 7 months, and now a sentence for 45 years and 10 months. He now accumulates a global sentence of 335 years and 5 months in prison.
