1,900 Manufacturing Jobs Lost in Nogales
NOGALES, SONORA, MX – Nearly 40,000 workers in the manufacturing industry of Nogales, Sonora, have returned to their jobs while 5,400 await to return, this according to statistics by Index Nogales.
Many of those that have not returned to work are considered clinically vulnerable, either because of their age or because of an underlying health condition.
The manufacturing industry in Nogales employs about 45,000 workers, but so far this year, over 1,900 jobs have been lost in the manufacturing sector alone.
Continental Nogales Manufacturing
This week the factory Continental announced a plan to close the Nogales manufacturing plant within the next three years.

The facility employs nearly 2,000 workers, specializing in manufacturing the technology utilized to enable communication and connectivity for driving system components and vehicles.
The plans are part of the Transformation 2019-2029 structural program by the German technology company. The plan contemplates the closure of the location in Rubí, Spain, by 2021 and the closure of the location in Nogales, Mexico, by 2024
