10,000 Returning to Workplace

NOGALES, SONORA, MX – A strong return to the workforce is expected within two weeks in the manufacturing industry in Nogales, with about 10,000 workers returning to work in non-essential companies.

According to data from Index Nogales, there are approximately 45,000 export industry workers in the city, of which 27,000 were not working during the Covid-19 pandemic due to the closure of non-essential companies.

As of this week, nearly 1,500 workers will return to work, and by June 1, employees of non-essential companies are expected to return gradually.

Hipolito Sedano Ruiz, Canacintra’s representative in the North Pacific of Mexico, announced that gradually more people will return to their jobs.

Before June 1, industries must comply with all the protocols that are required by the Federal and State Secretaries of Labor for the protection of workers and adjustments of spaces in the industry.

These protocols also include hygiene and sanitation measures, different work shifts, and the enablement of completing work activities from home.

“We are considering reopening stores beginning June 1,” said the representative of Canacintra.
